WBRRC (West Berkshire Rapid Response Car Fund)
The WBRRC was set up in 2004 with one car driven by Neale Marney, MBE and WBRRC Fund Chairman. Since then the trustees and supporters have raised sufficient funds to keep four cars on the road. In 2008 the four West Berks Rapid Response Cars attended in excess of 850 incidents across the area of West Berkshire, to the borders of Oxfordshire, Hampshire and Wiltshire. To ensure the cars remain on the road, serviced and maintained in order that they are able to save lives, the WBRRC relies on the continued generous donations of the public and local companies. The Rapid Responders are all fully trained paramedics and medical technicians, they drive the cars in their spare time and are paid a nominal fee per job by the NHS trust. When a 999 call comes in, if they are closest to the incident the responders can be at a patient’s side before the ambulance arrives, saving vital seconds and providing crucial, lifesaving assistance. In addition to accidents in the home, high street and on the roads of the county, the cars are often called to major accidents, such as those on the M4
